So once in a while, the lovely Ali Edwards does a little project called Day In The Life. During a day from the moment you wake up, to the moment you go to bed, you document what happens. It’s a great way to record what is happening right now, all the little details that sometimes get missed and I think it’ll be great to look back on in years to come to see what our routine looks like (and with school starting in September it’s going to change quite a bit soon!).
So what was my day like yesterday on the 29th March? Well…
I wake at 6.15 when my radio alarm goes off. I doze until Arthur wakes up at 6.54, I’m not sure if he appreciates having a camera shoved in his face as soon as he opens his eyes! Both he and Betsy have slept in really late today, the clocks going forward over the weekend has really screwed up their sleeping patterns, weirdly. Because of the late sleepers, it’s a bit of a scramble to get ready before nursery and work.
7.20. There is always time for coffee though. Toasted hot cross buns and headache pills complete my breakfast.
7.21. Watching a spot of Cbeebies before they get dressed.
7.48. Kids in Grandad’s car as they leave for their various childcare. They don’t look pleased in that picture, do they?
8.06 Waiting for a train.
8.12 Packed in a bit. Oh, the joy of commuting! But I get to talk to Dave who’s knee you can see in the middle. He’s reading his Kindle. I’m checking Facebook I think. Shockingly this is the only picture I have of Dave the whole day! I saw him quite a bit in the evening too. Hmm.
9.50 Second breakfast, because I’m a hobbit and also because I won’t need a big lunch later).
11.14 Work, work, work.
13.00 Can you hear the hail on this video? The weather’s a bit crazy at the moment, isn’t it?
14.20 Lunchtime. It’s recess so I get to sit out on the Terrace, ooh, get me! It’s nice, but bloody freezing so I finish my soup in the office.
15.41 Coffee break and a quick write down of day in the life notes.
16.15 Really quiet committee corridor.
17.00 Train delayed due to a driver not turning up. The one day you get to leave work early, etc, etc..
17.15 Had to change trains and get on another. Raining again. Commutes are boring!
Which is why I listen to podcasts on the way. Today I’m listening to Tom Robinson’s Sunday night show which this week played nothing but TV themes. Some cracking tunes in there including The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
17.45 Get home and start dinner. I strip the weekend’s roast chicken with the thought of serving it up with some mah and gravy, but then I get ambitious, decide to make some pastry and make…
Well, you’ll see in a minute. But first I hear a knock on the door and see this:
18.21 The kiddos are home! Hooray!
18.21 Arthur running to hug me <3
19.01 The kids’ play their new game which is to hurl themselves onto the sofa. Fun times!
19.15 Dave is home so we eat dinner; chicken and mushroom pies. The pastry is a bit wonky, but it’s a pretty good dinner all in all.
20.01 Getting ready for bed.
20.06 In bed with Arthur trying to get him to sleep, but he’s really restless despite being knackered. It’s brilliant that there’s still a bit of light outside though! This is my last photo of the day, I fall asleep next to Art (probably before him actually).
It’s been really good to have the camera with me and to actively think about taking photos all the time, it’s been a good warm up to Week In The Life which starts in early May. Can’t wait for that!
