Exploring the Hitchin Lavender field

In what has now become a summer tradition, we visited Hitchin Lavender field the other weekend. It’s a lovely day out and every time we’re there I take some of my most favourite photos of the kiddos.

Betsy had been asking to go to the fields for weeks and even though the lavender isn’t quite in full bloom, we decided to go. Both kids were super excited to be there, more than I thought they could ever be about a field, albeit a very pretty one, but that is vastly underestimating my children! It may be only a field, but there are hundreds of bees and butterflies to spot, wildflowers to spy amongst the lavender, the sense of achievement of marching up a big hill and trains to spot too as we were next to the east coast mainline.

There are a number of different varieties of lavender here, the bigger ones proved to be the most popular, almost being as tall as Arthur (it’s also most excellent for photos).

Betsy was really pleased to be here.

Really, really pleased!

Although she got a bit annoyed with me snapping away all the time because she wanted to get to the top quickly!

But it worth the wait, and Betsy was rewarded for her patience with a wonderful view that took her breath away.

While on the top, we had a sit down, a little drink and relaxed before filling our paper bag with lavender to take home. Cutting the lavender was Boo’s favourite part of the day.

So nice to be back! It’s a great day out, especially as there’s a lovely little cafe and play area too. We’re going to try to come along again later this year as sunflowers are also grown here, imagine the photos from that!
