So I finally started my maternity leave last week. It’s felt like a long time coming. I’ve spent the last few weeks absolutely convinced that this baby is going to be early, but I think that’s mostly down to the stress of getting everything finished at work in time and we still hadn’t got any of Betsy’s old baby gear down from the loft (we’re dead organised, us). But a week has now passed and I’m feeling much more relaxed about the whole giving birth thing. Baby clothes are now washed, sorted and put in their place and the downstairs room where I’m planning on giving birth is tidy, clean and ready for use and we know how to put the pool up. I’ve also managed to bake biscuits for the community midwives who’ll assist during the birth, get a haircut (I have a fringe again, yay! Thanks lovely people at Rockalily!) and made some curtains for Betsy’s room (from an idea totally ripped off from Sian, who has made some awesome curtains for both Seren and her new arrival. I have also discovered that my sewing machine is a bit bust. Boo). I have managed quite a few naps as well.

Weirdly, I find myself feeling overdue even though I have another week before I hit my due date. I think it’ll be a few days yet (if not more), but I can’t help feeling restless and impatient for everything to kick off. Even Betsy’s getting bored waiting for the baby! We are for the most part, ready as we’ll ever be, so now we’ll sit back (or in my case, perch on a nice big birthing ball) and wait.
