Snowdrops

I lamented earlier this month about how I hadn’t seen any snowdrops yet this year, so on what felt like the warmest and sunniest day so far, I took Betsy to Myddelton House. We’ve been before, and I remembered that in springtime, the place is awash with snowdrops, crocus and lots of other spring flowers. The place was also awash with coach parties and an MG owners club meet, but there’s enough space in the gardens that it never feels crowded (although it’s a different story in the tiny cafe, curse you horticultural enthusiasts for eating all the teacakes!).

I let Betsy lead the way and she took us though greenhouses (a lot. Now she’s taller she’s going through an opening and closing of doors many, many times phase) and down to the Alpine meadow that’s famously awash with bulbs.

The place is full of snowdrops which made my heart sing, and managed to give me an awful lot of inspiration for our little garden. We don’t even have any daffodils growing here at the moment and now I want to plant not just daffs and snowdrops, but add some crocus to our (hopefully) new lawn and plant some hellebores where Myddelton House reminded me just how brilliant these lovely little winter flowers are.

That’s obviously a great place to go to see spring bulbs in flower. xx
