Resolutions 2015

Trent Park in the autumn

Happy new year everyone! Have you all had a good Christmas? I keep meaning to write about ours and I’ll probably post something around the time when everyone, including me, is sick of the festive season (now?), but it would be good to have something posted, even if it’s just to conclude the round-up of what our Christmas elves got up too (in short – a total success and Betsy loved them, they even grew in number in an unexpected twist). But the beginning of January is always about thinking forward and there is so much to think about this year. Dave’s doing really well in his new career and I’ll be back to work in May (just in time for the general election. Yay?). I’m also going to attend Blogtacular in June, which is super exciting as the conference last year looked amazing. No festivals again this year, which is a shame, but there’s hoping we can get down to the west country to see my relatives in Devon, Dorset and Bristol.

As usual, there’s a heap of things I’m aiming to do. Last year’s resolutions didn’t go too badly; I took lots of photos and I learnt to knit (although it’s been a few months since I’ve picked up the needles, maybe the first project I try to complete this year is the tie I started for Dave), but I didn’t get out of Enfield or use my cookbooks as much as I would have liked. So here’s a list of things that would be nice to do for this year:

Look after myself a bit better. genuinely the most important thing on the list. I’m feeling really drained at the moment and I need to be healthier for my and my children’s benefits. I don’t want to do any big diets as that will set me up for failure, but a positive move in eating more healthily would be a very good thing (just as soon as I finish the massive Christmas cake I’ve got in the house. There’s loads, Dave won’t eat it. You are all welcome to pop round and have a slice and a cup of tea. It’s WELL tasty). I need to do more exercise too, so as I have a Fitbit app on my phone I’m going to attempt to do the recommended 10,000 steps everyday. I’m also going to get back into meditation practice as well, using the Headspace app.

Sort the house out. We’ve been here for almost two years and I’m sick of the magnolia walls. We can’t afford to totally redecorate the place, but a lick of paint even if it’s white would be good. We also need a major declutter and clean more regularly. I’ll be logging onto the Fly Lady a lot I think! Our house is a mess, especially the kitchen, ye gods that room needs a sort out! All the cupboards need a major tidy and reorganisation, I’m pretty certain there’s quite a lot of food (mostly baking products) that is too old and can be chucked and then I need to log what we have and meal plan around it. Maybe I could use some of my million cookbooks to help?! That would be good.

Hmm. In my head it’s only two resolutions , but actually it’s quite a lot, isn’t it? Anyway, thank you so much for reading this blog throughout 2014, it really means a lot to me that people from around the world read this, hopefully you’ll join me and my brilliant little family this year. Have a fabo 2015 everyone.

Thanks, and to you too. I had a quiet Christmas, which suited me.
It looks like you’re going to have a busy year. I notice that you’ve not mentioned the garden. Growing your own would help with keeping fit and healthy. xx

Oh don’t you worry, there’s plenty of plans for the garden, but it’s a separate blog post!
