If you happen to be around Borough Market this week, be sure to visit The House of Ferment. The House of Ferment is part of the Science Gallery’s Fed Up season and celebrates everything fermented (obviously) from sourdough bread to kimchi. Flipping heck, I can’t even write kimchi without salivating.
As the idea of the Science Gallery is where art and science collide, the House of Ferment is an actual house created by Grizedale Arts and built to hold a host of things from vintage kitchenalia, most of which holds a huge amount of sentimental value to artist Karen Guthrie (the Kenwood Chef for example was her mother’s), books, bottles of ferments and some pickle jars cast from artist Bedwyr Williams’ head.
The copper roof is beautiful by the way, and as the week progresses vinegar will be poured onto it, oxidising the copper.
There are a series of free talks and lunches up until this Saturday the 11th July that can be booked here.
